Austin Schrock's video: Why talking about your goals is actually destroying your success

In this video we discuss why talking about your goals is (actually) destroying your success. I was surprised to hear many prominent authors repeating a phrase somewhat similar to the title of this video. I decided to try to figure out why this actually was happening. If talking about my goals is destroying my success, that's good to know, but for us to change our behavior we need to know WHY it's happening. What I found was very revealing and quite accurate to what others were saying. It turns out that talking about our goals chemically reduces the drive in our brains to continue pushing for them. Why? Because our subconscious (where the majority of our drive and motivation comes from) can't tell the difference between reality and imagination. So when we tell someone our goals we get a hit of enjoyment by tricking our brain into thinking we've accomplished our goal, when we have only been talking and imagining it. This is a big deal, if you're anything like me, achievement of goals is one of the main drives in life and I'll take all the help I can get.
