I'm not a big fan of how, for many of the big bads in the game, a lot of the music doesn't really fit. Something as epic as a world boss, especially an iconic one like the Shatterer, should have it's own fight music. So I set out to do it. I wanted to bring a bit of melodic JRPG-inspired flair to this piece, while also creating something that wouldn't be out of place in Guild Wars 2. I tried to basically give the Shatterer his own identity in the melody, much like many of the character themes I compose, but also wanted to create a tone reminiscent of a battle that puts heroes at the center. I drew heavy inspiration from the overall tone of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn's soundtrack. This one was much easier than "Something in the Water", largely because -- with a significantly simpler fight -- there was no reason to be as ambitious. Most of this piece is designed to be one large loop, aside from 0:00 to 0:08, which is designed to only play as the event starts and the Shatterer swoops down, and the end fade, which would play as the Shatterer is defeated. I had thought about doing a crystal burn section, but that phase goes by so quickly that I figured it would probably be kinda pointless.
