We have so much left over from yesterday so I am sharing a cake recipe today instead! Did you know that Steamed cake is very popular in Asia? If you never tried it before, you should try it! The texture is very different from bake, it is so moist it melt in the mouth! I would recommend putting a paper lining on a square baking pan instead of greasing the round pan, I did encounted some difficulty when removing the cake from pan. The cake look ugly and I was forced to cut away the edges for photo shooting:( anyway, it turned out great and i hope it tempt you to try it out too! This recipe is adapted from hanamemories blog, thanks Hana for such a awesome cake recipe! Steamed chocolate cheese Cake Recipe 250 gm cream cheese – I only used 200g because that’s all I have left 50g sugar 1 egg 1 tbs water – I only add 1/2 tbs 1 tbs plain flour Instructions:- Beat cream cheese with sugar until combined then add the egg followed by the water and flour. Continue to beat until smooth and creamy. Set aside. Ingredients B (for cake): 2 eggs – I used large 1 cup sugar – I used 150g 1 tsp vanilla extract pinch of salt 1/2 cup boiling water 1/2 cup fresh milk – I used 100g 1/2 cup oil – I used 90g 1 cup plain flour – I used 110g* 3 tbs cocoa powder* 1 tsp baking soda* 1/2 tsp baking powder *(* sift together) Instructions: 1. Beat the eggs together with sugar until fluffy. Add the vanilla and salt. In goes the hot water, milk and oil next. 2. Add the dry sifted ingredients and mix till combined. Rest the batter for a while before dividing into 2 equal portions. Here’s how you steam it:- Heat up your steamer and wrap the cover with a cloth to prevent steam water from dripping onto the cake. Use medium heat. Next grease and line the bottom of your pan (I used a 6″ square, you can use a 7″ round if you wish). Pour in one portion of the chocolate cake batter. Cover the pan with aluminium foil and steam (covered) for 15-20 minutes. Remove cover and aluminium foil and add the prepared cream cheese batter and close back the aluminium foil and continue to steam for another 15 minutes. Lastly, remove the steamer cover and the aluminium foil again and pour in the 2nd portion of the chocolate cake batter and then reclose the foil and cover again and steam for 20 minutes until cake is cooked. Remove from the steamer, and let it cool down before slicing and serve.
