Depending on your genres of choice you may have noticed a trend whereby the average length of a track seems to be getting shorter and shorter. We’re not talking about radio edits here, we’re talking about music designed by a DJ, to be mixed by a DJ. Whilst the leaps in technology that digital has brought to DJing allow us to be a bit more creative in terms of how and what we can mix, we’re not sure that sub 3-minute EDM offerings can be labelled as ‘original mix’ with any kind of artist integrity still intact. Fortunately, there are still a great many artists who release their music with a decent runtime included, and in praise of one such artist, this week see’s the welcome return of Norway’s space-disco extraordinaire Todd Terje, with our DRC Sound Design Tutorial for 2011’s ‘Snooze 4 Love’. Just over 8 minutes in total, It’s a happy, jolly bundle of joy, with a meandering blippy little lead playfully leaping around, kept in line by a short, stabby bassline and funky percussion, flanked by dreamy arpeggios throughout.
