Saltstraumen's incoming tide has currents that can be more than 20 knots. The maelstroms or whirlpools extend hundreds of metres in length. Saltstraumen is in Nordland (Northern Norway) close to the town of Bødo. At slack water, when the tide is not running fast, there is great fishing to be done but my luck had run dry. All was not lost, as I was bequeathed 2 fish by local fishermen! This was just one great stop on our Trondheim to Bødo road trip.
