Mike Phillips's video: Personal Accountability Holding Yourself Accountable

@Personal Accountability | Holding Yourself Accountable
In this video I talk about how to create personal accountability. Holding yourself accountable is important in business, leadership, and life. At the core personal accountability is to do what you say you will do, when you say you will do it. It’s delivering. Being responsible for something and accountable for something is not the same. Responsibility is duty and something what we owe to others. What we say we will do and accomplish. Responsibility is something that happens before the action or the duty that will take place. Accountability, on the other hand is what happens after-the-fact… you either did, or you didn’t... Accountability in what we owe to ourselves, it's the grading system. How did we do? How did we perform our responsibilities? At the end of the day, the person we are most accountable to is ourselves. Therefore accountability at its root… is always personal. Now keep in mind we are not accountable for what happens beyond our control. BUT even then - We can choose how we respond to it. No matter what, we will all face fears and have bad things happen in our lives, but the attitude you choose to react with is part of what defines that experience. Whether you are trying to build more personal accountability at work or anywhere in your life these two personal accountability training exercises or tactics, rather will help you to achieve high levels of success. So here are the two specific things you can practice to create stronger personal accountability starting right now. 1️⃣ Write things down. This isn't the same as goal setting, where you are pushing for achievement and a mighty outcome. It's the simple act of keeping notes to remind yourself of the responsibility. That alone will boost accountability with individuals. 2️⃣ Tell others what you plan to do. When we tell other people even our minor checkpoints and not massive goals, it makes us accountable to others. And because we innately care about others opinions, we want their approval… often that helps us stay accountable to ourselves. Because we want to stay congruent and consistent to ourselves, and because we want to avoid embarrassment. Robert Cialdini talks about this in his book “INFLUENCE” the commitment and consistency principle lends itself to success in accountability, because we want the social approval of others.
