Reliance Foundation's video: Reliance Foundation: Helping Farmers with Production and Sale of Oranges

Deep black laterite soil, high humidity and annual rainfall above 800 mm, make Agar region of Madhya Pradesh, highly suitable for orange production. Despite the favourable conditions, the orange production in Agar’s villages was negligible until a few years ago due to water scarcity. Reliance Foundation’s water based interventions helped ensure water availability in every household and in the fields, enhancing crop production and farmers’ incomes. Encouraged, the farmers developed orange orchards, getting abundant yields of high quality oranges. This further motivated them to take up its production commercially and for this, they came together to establish a Farmer Producer Company (FPC), selling their produce at highly profitable rates. The fruits are now sold at Reliance Smart stores across the country, greatly increasing their yearly income and bringing prosperity to Agar’s villages.
