@International Tiger Day 2021: Demystifying the tigers of the Sundarbans
The Sundarbans evokes a mysterious image in your mind. The Royal Bengal Tiger reigns supreme amidst the twisting mangrove trees and watery pathways. With 114 tigers, as per the last Tiger Survey, India’s national animal is worshipped by the locals. Tales of fatal encounters between man and tiger abound, but such incidents only occur when locals move into the forests for scavenging natural resources. There has been no straying tiger killed since 2001. The government, NGOs and local communities also work together to ensure peaceful coexistence between man and tiger. As climate change and habitat reduction advance over the years, local engagement and govt involvement will go a long way to ensure the longevity of the tigers’ home. @WWF-India Subscribe to Times Of India's Youtube channel here: http://goo.gl/WgIatu Social Media Links: Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/TimesofIndia Twitter : https://twitter.com/timesofindia Google + : https://plus.google.com/u/0/+timesindia/posts
