Violet Deliriums's video: Hole - Violet guitar cover

This is my cover of Hole's song "Violet" (1995). Although the bands Hole and L7 were not part of the Riot Grrrl bands of the early 1990s (like Bikini Kill, Bratmobile and Huggy Bear), they express a similar badassness by trying to empower the feminine by simply doing what they wanted regardless of the boundaries of traditional gender roles. In this case they get up on stage and rock, but what they rocked about was the fucked up world they lived in. And they often did so in an ironic way, say by writing "SLUT" across their bare stomachs so that boys could see exactly what they were already thinking and hopefully realize what assholes they were being. This song is similar in that it criticizes males who think like that and treat women poorly (like the character portrayed in Henry Rollins' song "Liar"), but it goes a step further and also criticizes females who allow it to happen (what Garbage calls a "Stupid Girl" in that song), like the character in this song (who might be an earlier incarnation of Courtney Love herself, but that doesn't really matter because anyone can grow up). I played it on my Fender Violet Deliriums ESM Signature Model Blacktop HH Jaguar, which has Seymour Duncan SH-1 pickups, a killswitch, and some neat-o stickers on the pickguard. (ESM = Explosive Space Modulator.) I select the bridge humbucker and that goes through my Fender Supersonic 22W amp's "Vintage" (clean) channel. I use a TC Electronic Flashback for a slight echo ("Lofi" delay patch) and turn on a Line 6 DM4 ("Screamer" patch) for the distorted parts. At the end of the song, I hold the final E chord and let the feedback burn while I mess with some effects pedals to make noise: a Boss TR-2 tremolo, an MXR Phase 90, and a Line 6 DL4 delay. To record it, I played along with the mp3 with my computer speakers and amp huddled around a Samson CO1U microphone into my Mac's Photo Booth program, which reverses the image and I don't know how to fix it.
