I stayed at the Red Planet Asoke hotel, Bangkok recently. This is a look around the hotel and a quick review. The hotel is located on a quiet alley called Sukhumvit Soi 14. It's just off the main Sukhumvit road, right near the action of Soi Cowboy, which is only a few minutes walk away. Also, even closer is the MRT / BRT / SkyTrain, which is extremely convenient for getting around the city. The huge shopping mall called Terminal 21 is right beside it. The location has plenty of restaurants, shops and bars near by... and a 7 Eleven. Rooms cost around US$40 per night (1400 baht) for a Standard Double. The Red Planet is also guest friendly, so no extra charge or joiner fees. The hotel is new, modern and clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Front desk and security is 24 hours. Wheelchair access. They have a laundry service for an extra charge of course. The rooms come equipped with Air Con, fan, flat-screen TV, Cable channels, hairdryer, fold-able desk, black out curtains, a safe, coat-hangers and a rail to hang some clothes (not a wardrobe). The en suite bathroom has 2 towels, and already has shower gel, shampoo, soap etc. My room was a standard double, and the bed was very comfortable, with nice quality bed sheets. WiFi is in all the rooms and is a decent speed. However, they use a web filter (Fortiguard/Fortinet), which blocks some websites. I like to have a punt online from time to time, and could not access a gambling site. I tried to use a VPN but couldn't get it to work. My only other complaint was that there is no mini bar / refrigerator in the room. I usually like to go to 7 Eleven or Family Mart and stock up on drinks, so I can have a cold drink when I want. This option is not available here unfortunately. Overall I would recommend the Red Planet Asoke. You would be hard pressed to find a nicer hotel at the same price or cheaper.
