Hey again, fang-girls and boys! I'm Jager Weatherby from http://www.Wetpaint.com, your one-stop shop for The Vampire Diaries news, gossip, and spoilers. Our favorite vampire show may be off the air for the summer, but that doesn't mean we've stopped thinking about it — or one smoldering character in particular. We're talkin' 'bout Damon Salvatore. The undead hottie has made such an impact on us that we've started to live by his rules. No, we aren't killing people or lusting after our siblings' significant others — but we have picked up a few solid life-lessons from the oldest (and baddest) Salvatore. Let us school you on how to live life the Damon way. Because you don't learn everything you need to know in kindergarten. The first lesson? If you want people to trust you, you gotta tell the truth. Let's be real: We don't always trust Damon, but we can sure count on him to tell it like it is — especially when it hurts. In Damon-land, it's best to just lay it all out there, and if people don't like it, well, screw 'em. Or suck their blood until they die. Simple! Lesson number two: Forgive yourself. In last season's episode "The Sacrifice," Damon told a distraught Rose, "You went on a murderous rampage, it happens." Hopefully none of us have ever torn into the necks of our friends, but surely we've all done some not-so-admirable things. Whenever we mess up, we try to let go and move past it. After all, it can't be worse than accidentally murdering innocent people, right? The third thing Damon has taught us? You gotta be yourself. Even if that involves loving your brother's girlfriend (whoops!), using your own girlfriend as a blood-bag replacement, or holding grudges for hundreds of years (sorry, Katherine). Other people may not agree with your decisions, but they're not the ones who have to live with them! Number four: Being bad is sexy. Okay, so it was actually that hot boy in 8th grade who wore the dog collar who taught us this, but blue-eyed baddie Damon definitely solidified the notion. We wouldn't necessarily want Damon to be our forever-after, but when it comes to eye candy (or a fling), being bad is good. Very good. But the most important lesson Damon has imparted to us? People can change. He went from being the sweet older brother to the badass of the century... but over the past two seasons, we've seen some of his old sweetness slowly seep back in. We know, we know. We just said being bad is sexy. And it is. But sometimes so is a little humanity. And when it comes from someone who hasn't been human in 150 years, it's pretty freakin' hot. There you go, TVDers! We know Damon isn't exactly the most stand-up citizen we could model our lives after, but the fangtastic fox has some admirable morals hidden beneath that rough exterior. And even if he doesn't learn from his mistakes, we have. We love you, Damon! For your full Salvatore fix, visit http://www.Wetpaint.com/The-Vampire-Diaries.
