@Jason Cole: NFL reporter for BleacherReport.com Recaps 2017 NFL Draft
One thing was made abundantly clear during the 2017 NFL Draft, there was a premium placed on the need to secure a franchise signal caller at all costs. With three teams trading up within the first 12 picks to nab what they hope will be the guys taking snaps for the respective team for the next decade pus. In our instant gratification society where often tempted to bestow labels on anything and everything. If you were to label what we saw in Philadelphia this past weekend you might be enticed to tab the tag line “No risk no reward.” None of these quarterbacks have a proven track record which the NFL covets in terms of prototypical metrics, however, they do have freakish athleticism and promise. Which in turn, translates to these players being over drafted because of the position they play. If they hit and turn into franchise savers then the price they pay is worth all the draft capital teams have. However, if they flame out, then personnel executives who drafted them may be toeing the unemployment line. The other overwhelming storyline which transpired during the weekend, had to do with teams taking risks on character challenged players within the top 50 picks. Gareon Conley, Joe Mixon and Reuben Foster all entered the draft with red flags however, all three have tremendous physical ability and the Raiders, Bengals and 49ers where all willing to roll the dice, on character in favour of physical talent and ability. Will it be worth the risk? The spectacle which is the NFL Draft had many twists and turns in 2017, which kept us all anxiously on our feet with anticipation. The question now becomes: how will these college standouts translate to the next level? Jason Cole is a NFL reporter for BleacherReport.com. He joined 2Man Advantage Podcasts Kevin McShan on Thursday, to recap all the happenings we saw during the Draft.
