Iran news in brief, January 7, 2021 Iran: Coronavirus Fatalities Exceeds 197,900 Over 197,900 people have died due to the coronavirus across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran as of Wednesday. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 55,830 around a third of the actual figure. While the number of Covid-19 victims in Iran reaches the 200,00 mark, the mullahs’ regime continues to delay in purchasing the coronavirus vaccine. “Right now, the Covid-19 vaccine has been produced and we need to provide it for the people and the vulnerable,” said an ICU expert in Iran on Wednesday. “If we wait for the Iranian vaccine to be produced in July, there will be a black market for the Covid-19 vaccine in this country. It must be clarified why there is a delay in purchasing and importing credible Covid-19 vaccines. Time and again various private companies and their representatives have announced they can purchase and import credible vaccines. These days many foreign goods are being purchased and the vaccine is nothing in comparison. Anyhow, providing the vaccine and launching vaccination for a significant number of people will take time, any delay in this regard will keep us back even further,” the expert added, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency. Arrest Warrant Issued for Victim of Violence Against Woman The Iranian Judiciary issued an arrest warrant for a victim of violence against woman. The Prosecutor’s Office of Abadan, Branch 7, ordered the arrest of a woman who was badly injured after inhumane treatment by a security agent in late October 2020. Simultaneous with the arrest warrant issued for Ms. Bahareh Cheshm Berah, her assailant, Mehdi Kazemi, was exonerated, her lawyer and a journalist from Khuzestan reported. On October 22, 2020, a video clip circulated in social media of a young woman in Abadan with bloodied face being held on the ground while a security agent for the Oil Company put his foot on her chest. The inhumane treatment of this woman provoked widespread outrage among the Iranian public.
