Time value of money is the concept that future cash is worth less than cash in hand today. This concept is the bedrock for calculating the value of a stock. So you it is very important to know how to calculate time value of money. Since money today is worth more than money in the future investors are able to forecast the future cash flows of a business and figure out how much that is worth to them today. From there investors are able to compare the value of the cash flows to what the value of the business is trading at and determine if it is a good purchase.
