@Will we be able to mudlark the Antarctic one day? I meet British Antarctic Survey Scientist @drgilbz
This is episode 5 of a series of 12 videos I am making on the subject of Climate Change & Sustainability. The Polar Regions seem so far away so does it really matter what is going on there? In May 2023 I met up with Dr Ella Gilbert @DrGilbz, a scientist at the British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge (https://www.bas.ac.uk) . Ella is a climate scientist and presenter, with a PhD in Antarctic climate change. I wanted to find out more about the Antarctic and Arctic and whether what happens there really does affects us all. Dr Ella explained the different kinds of ice to me (did you know there are so many different kinds?!), and the crucial part they play in the lives of wildlife, nature, communities and all of us on this planet. Do check out Ella's wonderful YouTube channel in which she makes climate science accessible to all of us who aren't scientists! You can find it here @DrGilbz (And some of you may enjoy this video in which she explains the problem with "climate doom" https://youtu.be/i_pymVFSjy8 ) The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is a world leading national polar research institute. It has a dual purpose, to conduct polar science, enabling better understanding of global issues, and to provide an active presence in the Antarctic on behalf of the UK. It is part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). "The Polar Regions may be at the ends of the Earth but what happens there affects us all. Understanding how the Earth works, and in particular how it is responding to ever-increasing human pressures, is one of science’s greatest challenges" :- https://www.bas.ac.uk/ Big thanks to the British Antarctic Survey, to Dr Ella Gilbert and also to Emily Newton for facilitating this interview. Thank you too to Tim Day of Brighton Digital Media. Thankyou for watching. Every one of us can help limit global warming and take care of our planet. By making choices that have less harmful effects on the environment, we can be part of the solution and influence change. https://www.climaterealityproject.org/ https://www.unep.org/ Thank you for watching.
