Drums by Keith B. 's video: Hold The Line - Toto - Drum Cover by Keith B

@Hold The Line - Toto - Drum Cover by Keith B.
While vacationing in Cancun, a cover band at the resort I stayed at did this song, and the drummer just butchered it. It put me in mind of giving it a try, as I had remembered the drum part being pretty cool, with a lot more going on than meets the eye. Drummer Jeff Porcaro has been quoted saying that while the song could have been played as a straight four count rocker, they decided to go for a Sly and the Family Stone triplet style groove. Personally, I think this drum part is a masterpiece, with an amazing kick beat during the verse (notice too he shifts where the hi hat lifts fall in verse 3 compared to verse 2), very cool fills, and great kick inflections during the final section (which I had to do using my double kick). The song hit on Billboard’s Hot 100 back in 1978, and is an example of pop-oriented rock done right. A very fun one, and hopefully I didn’t butcher it too much myself!
