TheUglylucy4's video: Two Sides of Love

@Two Sides of Love
"Two Sides of Love" was written by Sammy Hagar and is the fourth track off of his 1984 release...VOA. The LP is the last solo album released by Hagar before he joined Van Halen and his eighth. The title is a reference to the Voice of America broadcast network. Voice of America (VOA) is a United States government-funded multimedia news source and the official external broadcasting institution of the United States. It was signed into law in 1976 by President Gerald Ford. So what are the two sides of love and why is our author caught in between them? In love, there is the protective, consistent "hard side" love and the tender, understanding "soft side" love. Depending on our basic personality type, we all tend to be either too hard or too soft in our relationships with those we love the most. That is where our author finds himself caught. The opening lines tell us this relationship is failing..."You never hear about it, It's not the thing you talk over with friends, You never see it coming until it begins, But something stepped in between us, It's taken all of our time alone, In her heart love remains, but is seldom shown". Sounds like our female interest has a hard time showing her love for him. But the relaionship is one big dichotomy. "A kiss goodbye, a kiss hello , You wonder why she get's lonely, You've got to show her, don't tell her, She's your one and only". A woman who receives love but still cries at night..."So why does she cry herself to sleep at night?, Why do I have to work so hard to make things right?, To fall in love came naturally, To make it last is so hard, you see, I'm caught in between the two sides of love." I think it is fair to say for these two there is soon going to be no more sides of love left for them..."We make promises, promises, And late at night you make big plans, Someday we'll run away and leave the love demands". When the soft side no longer comforts and the hard side no longer protects, those two sides split. That is where our author is caught. "Two Sides of Love" is probably Hagar's most underrated song. Great stuff from the eighties.
