Wring out the old and invite the new in with optimism and love. In this practice, we twist and twist some more in a variety of asanas - Parivrtta Prasarita Padottanasana (Standing Straddle Fwd Bend), Parivrtta Anjaneyasana (Crescent Lunge), Parivrtta Uktatasana (Chair Pose), and Ardha Matsyendrasana (Seated Twist). We explore inversions by first practising Sasankasana (Hare Pose) to evaluate if your body is ready to proceed to Salamba Sirsasana (Tripod Headstand), with the option of keeping knees on the top of the elbows in Crane Pose or doing the full expression by extending the legs up vertically. This pose turns your body upside down assisting lymph and venous circulation to detoxify and balance hormones. Prepare a folded blanket to cushion the crown of your head, and be mindful of your neck. Perform the inversion slowly and with concentration and enjoy the calming effects. Contraindications: high blood pressure, pregnancy, menstruation and problems of the cervical spine. This practice would benefit beginner and experienced yogis.
