COVID-19 has left the world in an extremely confusing situation. People are bored, confused, frustrated, scared, and depressed. People are finding ways to adjust to the new normal as if their life is reversed. Earlier people wanted lazy Sundays and now people want busy Mondays, people used to be homesick, now they want to see the world.  As if their whole life has flipped. Businesses have become more focused on running their business online, fieldwork has reduced and screen time has exceptionally increased. There has been an 85% growth in the use of social media. The growth of this social universe is one of the outcomes of COVID. This is not surprising that the role of social media and influencers in the life of businesses as well as the general public has also changed rapidly. Earlier social media was used for a specific amount of time since people had the option to go out and have fun. Now, this social media has become the source of their entertainment, learning, business, etc.

Influencers hold an excellent deal of socioeconomic power, especially during an epidemic where many of us are seeking information, entertainment, and community online. These influencers are playing a vital role in helping the audience to adjust to the new normal.

POWER OF INFLUENCERS 

Influencers are the people who make content in the form of posts, videos, memes, live sessions, etc for a certain field of influence like fashion, medicine, workout, food, travel, etc. Now through their content influencers have access to large communities that include different age groups of people and belonging to different areas. Thus the content created by these influencers somehow makes a place in the minds of their audience. This content can encourage the crowd in doing a lot of things in a lot of ways.

Role of influencers in encouraging people in Staying at home and maintaining social distancing

Platforms like Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, etc with a platform of billions of users have been able to somehow influence people in taking things seriously. The #stayathome hashtag by Instagram, #gharperho hashtag by TikTok. All these initiatives from these social media companies have helped in raising awareness amongst the people. In these delicate times staying at home and maintaining social distancing is extremely important to contain this virus. All the health organizations are starting campaigns for the people to encourage them to practice social distancing and in this effort, the role of influencers has been very prominent

Moreover, influencers are trusted and liked for his or her ability to make content that resonates with their community. This means that influencers have such creative power to point out their audience to a great life during this trying time, be it cooking tips, work from home advice, or simply sharing the great, the bad, and therefore the vulnerabilities of being human during this point.

A big chunk of our population goes to gyms, aerobics classes, yoga sessions, sports coaching, etc. The pandemic has been able to put a stop to all this.  People are now afraid to go to gyms or attend any yoga sessions cause let's face it,  life is more important.

Also around this time, we have noticed a hike in posts, Igtv's, YouTube videos related to home workout, diets, online training sessions. Trainers have been taking live Q&A rounds, conducting giveaways, challenges like pushup challenges, etc. So somehow people who find if working out were able to maintain normalcy in their lives. 

Education

 

 One of the sectors that have affected most schools, colleges have closed. All education is happening online. Online assignments, lectures, tests have become normal. Now we see teachers are uploading videos of their lectures online, Q&A rounds are getting conducted, crash courses are happening worldwide. 

Businesses

 

The sector which has seen almost a flip in recent times, as offline campaigns, advertisements have reduced drastically. digital marketing, social media marketing, influencer marketing have become the core ways to do marketing of businesses. Among these influencer marketing has seen a real spike in the past few months, influencer marketing campaigns have become dense and regular. Brands are hiring influencers to make content on their products and recommend the same to the crowds. Rigorous promotions, competitions. Giveaways etc have led to unbelievable traffic for these brands on social media. Brands can funnel their audience and maintain goodwill for their brand in the minds of the people so that when offline campaigns begin it will a good initial push.
